Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:38 pm

On August 10, 2010, Cynthia Ghering, director of the Michigan State University Archives & Historical Collections, and Lisa Schmidt, electronic records archivist at the MSU Archives, delivered a presentation on the MSU Digital Curation Planning Project at the annual Society of American Archivists (SAA) Research Forum in Washington, DC. Ghering and Schmidt are team chair and project manager of the project, respectively. The presentation covered all aspects of the project, including its evolution, methodologies, results, and recommendations/next steps. More than 100 archivists and researchers attended the Research Forum, and presentations covered topics in digital preservation and electronic records management as well as the use of business process management in the archives, new approaches to finding aids, digital curation governance education, and repository copyright management.

Ghering and Schmidt also presented a poster on the MSU Archives’ new NHPRC-funded Spartan Archive initiative during the Research Forum’s poster session. The Spartan Archive will be a permanent repository for the university’s records of enduring value.
